R129,58 billion over a 12 year stretch... Not bad for a video game franchise
15 March, 2015

The Call of Duty video game series is a popular first person shooter franchise that stretches
over 12 years in existence from 2003. In their 12 years of existence they have managed to
become one of the most successful video game franchises in history, selling over tens of
millions of copies around the world for every new video game produced since Call of Duty 4:
Modern Warfare. The publishers of this successful video game franchise announced that the
franchise has earned over R129,58 billion worldwide. These figures makes Call of Duty a far
bigger entertainment franchise than box office hits like 'The Hunger Games, Transformers,
Ironman and The Avengers'. Even if these box office franchises combine their total ticket sales
to date, it would still fall short of Call of Duty's R129,58 billion in global sales. The publishers
had no issues in revealing their sales data, stating that one of their block buster games, Call
of Duty: Black Ops II, crossed R5,89 billion in only its first day of sales, while Call of Duty:
Modern Warfare III managed to pull off R4.712 billion in itsfirst 24 hours of sales.
